This Stock Is Cheap

This article is part of our Rising Star Portfolios series.

With my Messed-Up Expectations portfolio, my goal is to beat the market by buying good companies when the market undervalues their future prospects and selling when the market overvalues that potential. My edge lies in recognizing these situations generated by fear, disfavor, euphoria, or other messed-up expectations. One example of this is my purchases of video game retailer GameStop (NYS: GME) , which Ive purchased twice: once at about $20 per share and again at about $26 per share.

Today, I believe two reasons are still causing some messed-up expectations and that this situation is still holding GameStops shares...

Elite eight in state

CORBIN
By Tim Branstetter / Staff Writer

The Corbin 6th Grade Redhounds traveled to Lexington on Saturday to compete in the KBA Middle School State Tournament and at the end of the day 40 teams were sent packing, but Corbin wasnt one of them.

The Redhounds advanced to the Elite Eight after winning four straight games, but were eliminated by Jefferson County Traditional Middle School (JCTMS), 45-32. However the game was much closer then the score would indicate.

Corbin only trailed by four points (33-29) at the end of the third quarter, but the Centurions managed to pull away late on 10 free throw attempts.

Andrew Taylor carried the Redhounds with 24 points,...

New Artwork Out for Disgaea Animator’s New Game: Infinite Souls

Takehito Harada is best known for his partnership with Nippon Ichi, responsible for the artwork in Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and Makai Kingdom. He is now, however, working with developer Compile Heart on a new RPG game, Infinite Souls, and new artwork from the game has been released.

Infinite Souls is an RPG with the same kind of Disgaea vibe, but with new characters and a turn-based battle system where, you can master smash attacks to send enemies flying across the field. The protagonist is ChouChou, a self-proclaimed absolute god hoping to take over the world. She’s accompanied by Altis, a demon reincarnated as an angel, her servant Lute, and another bunny-like servant named...

Home Style: Organize with style next year

When you make your New Years resolutions for 2012, dont forget to include a few that will help your home become its stylish best. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.

1. Organize with Style

If you have storage space in your home that is open to public view, make it look its absolute best. Its easy to make hardworking shelves as beautiful as they are functional by using lovely storage containers and interesting accents. A friend of mine made a built-in bookcase in her kitchen look amazing by putting old coal grates in front of her cookbook collection.

2. Need a place to store Grandmas silver? Instead of burying it away in a box in a drawer in a cabinet, include the silverware...

A corporate culture of health (or else)

OK, IT’S time to guess your New Year’s resolution. Go to the gym more? I knew it. Maybe because that’s the same New Year’s resolution I make every year.

The difference is, this year, your boss might make the same resolution for you.

This is the new wave of corporate activism: Looking out for employees’ health, in ways that are sometimes gently encouraging, sometimes more coercive. In 2010, at Boston-based insurance broker William Gallagher Associates, employees were asked to fill out a voluntary survey about their health, and got a $50 gift card in return. In 2011, the company offered a set of lab screening tests, free, along with a considerable...

Sturgis splits games

Sturgis girls team got behind early, rallied to make it close, but eventually fell to Marshall, while the Trojan boys overcame an early deficit behind a hot-shooting Dan Scheske to knock off the RedHawks at home Friday.

Marshall (girls) 48, Sturgis 38

Marshall took advantage of multiple miscues by Sturgis in the first quarter to build an early lead, although the Trojans would rally to close the gap to two points before the RedHawks pulled away to the 10-point victory.

We had a lot of turnovers in that first quarter, Sturgis coach Brian Beebe said. We gave them a lot of offensive rebounds. We just dug ourselves a hole, that to our credit, we really scrapped out of. I thought...
